Salesforce LinkedIn integration: from profile to Lead.
PortifyLead is a Chrome extension that connects LinkedIn to Salesforce. Open a LinkedIn profile, review the details, and save the person as a Lead. On a LinkedIn company page, it saves the company as a Lead too. It checks Leads and Contacts by email first, so someone already in your org is updated, not added again. No Sales Navigator plan needed. Had a conversation? Add an AI Sales Brief.
How LinkedIn prospects become Salesforce Leads.
Connect your org from the PortifyLead portal. If your org only allows approved connected apps, an admin installs PortifyLead’s app first. PortifyLead then reads your Lead fields from the org, custom fields, picklist values and required flags included, so you map each LinkedIn value once. On LinkedIn, capture the person, fill in anything a required field still needs, and confirm the save.
What Salesforce gets, and how.
- The record
- Creates a Lead. If the person is already in the org it updates that record instead.
- Duplicate check
- Matched on email across both Lead and Contact — the same objects Salesforce's own duplicate rules check, so a person already filed as a Contact is found rather than refused at save.
- Field mapping
- Your Lead fields, read from the org itself: every createable field, custom ones included, with picklist values and required flags.
- Follow-up
- Follow-up task, Task owner, Lead or Contact owner — each one a separate confirmation after the save succeeds. Everything runs as your Salesforce user, so your permissions and the org's sharing rules apply to the save and to each follow-up.
The connected app has to be installed into the org before it will authorise. Help covers the error it returns when it is not. Help & troubleshooting.
This part does not change.
No destination write happens until you confirm it. Follow-up actions are separate confirmations again.
PortifyLead checks for an existing contact when you save, so you keep the record updated instead of adding another.
Choose where each value lands once, and every save follows it. Included on Free.
LinkedIn’s own Salesforce options, and what they need.
LinkedIn’s own Salesforce integrations all need a Sales Navigator Advanced Plus contract. Salesforce’s LinkedIn Lead Gen connector is for people who fill in a form on your LinkedIn ad. PortifyLead is for the person you found on LinkedIn yourself, and it needs neither Sales Navigator nor ads.
Sales Navigator for Salesforce. An AppExchange app that shows LinkedIn information and Sales Navigator insights inside Salesforce and lets you send InMail from there. Its listing says it needs the Advanced Plus plan and Sales Cloud.
Lead creation from Sales Navigator. Creates a Salesforce Lead from a Sales Navigator lead page or list. A Sales Navigator admin on an Advanced Plus contract with CRM sync has to switch it on, and it creates Leads only.
LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms. Salesforce creates a Lead when someone fills in the lead form on one of your LinkedIn ads. It covers people who answered an ad, not prospects you are researching.
PortifyLead. Works from profiles on a regular LinkedIn account. You see the Lead before it is written, and a person already filed as a Contact is found by email instead of being added again as a Lead.
LinkedIn’s help page on Sales Navigator and your CRM →Optional: add an AI Sales Brief.
If you’ve had a one-to-one LinkedIn conversation with the prospect, turn it into an editable AI Sales Brief and review every field. Values you map go to their Lead fields. Anything useful you did not map is added to the record’s Description, where it is not lost. Without a conversation, save the Lead on its own.

Do I need Sales Navigator to connect LinkedIn to Salesforce?
For LinkedIn’s own Salesforce integrations, yes. Sales Navigator for Salesforce and lead creation from Sales Navigator both need an Advanced Plus contract. PortifyLead does not: it works from profiles on a regular LinkedIn account.
Does PortifyLead create Leads or Contacts in Salesforce?
A new person is always created as a Lead. If their email already belongs to a Lead or a Contact in your org, you are offered that record to update instead of adding a new Lead.
Can I save a company from its LinkedIn page?
Yes. Open the company’s LinkedIn page and save it the same way you save a person. Salesforce gets the company as a Lead, with the company name filled in, and you review it before it is written.
How does it handle duplicate leads in Salesforce?
Before saving, PortifyLead looks for the email on both Leads and Contacts, the same objects Salesforce’s duplicate rules check. If one of your duplicate rules still stops the save, PortifyLead shows the record it matched so you can update that one. Your rules may match on more than email.
Why does Salesforce say “app must be installed into org”?
Your org only lets approved connected apps sign in. An admin opens Setup, searches for Connected Apps OAuth Usage and clicks Install next to the PortifyLead app. Then retry from the portal’s Connections page. Your password is not the problem. Step-by-step in Help.
Can PortifyLead import leads from LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms?
No. Lead Gen Form leads come from your LinkedIn ads, and Salesforce’s own LinkedIn Lead Gen connector brings those in. PortifyLead saves people you open on LinkedIn yourself.
Can it set a Lead owner or create a task?
Yes, once the save has succeeded. You can create a follow-up task, choose the task owner and set the Lead or Contact owner, picked from your org’s active users, and each one is its own confirmation.
